Knowing when it’s time to pivot
Jun 05, 2025Read time: 3 minutes
Earlier this week, a member of Clarity Lab shared something in the community that left me jumping with joy on the inside.
This person shared how they finally decided to let go of a job that was not the right fit and was depleting their energy.
They’re now learning new skills and figuring out what works (and doesn’t work) for them.
Wow!
When they first joined The Lab back in March, this was just something they were “thinking about.” But now, two months later, they’re taking action on it. This is what it’s all about.
Definitely something to celebrate, right? But beyond that, it feels relatable.
That feeling when you’re stuck—whether in your job, a relationship, or any part of your life—and you start thinking, Is this it? Is this really where I want to stay?
It’s tough to admit when something isn’t working anymore, especially when you’ve put so much into it.
But staying stuck isn’t the answer. At some point, you have to ask yourself: Is it time to pivot?
Here’s the thing: Stuck is exhausting.
I know how easy it is to keep pushing through when things aren’t working, thinking it’ll get better if you just try harder. But in reality, when something is draining your energy, no amount of effort will make it feel right.
I’ll be honest, I’ve had my moments of wondering if I was crazy for pivoting. Leaving my corporate job wasn’t an easy decision, and it sure wasn’t a smooth ride either.
But when I finally made the shift, the weight that lifted off my shoulders felt like a breath of fresh air after almost drowning.
What I want you to know is that you don’t have to wait until you’re burnt out to make a change. It’s about recognizing when things feel off and giving yourself permission to make that shift.
So, how do I know when it’s time?
Here’s what I’ve learned over the years. If you’re noticing any of these, it’s probably a sign:
- You’re constantly tired but can’t rest: If you’re waking up already feeling drained, even after a full night’s sleep, that’s your body saying this isn’t working anymore.
- Your work feels disconnected from your values: When you’re spending hours on something that doesn’t align with who you are or what you believe in, it creates a disconnect that’s hard to ignore. It’s a signal for change.
- You’re busy but not fulfilled: Feeling like you’re running in circles, getting lots done, but still feeling unfulfilled? That’s a huge red flag. It’s time to pause and evaluate if what you’re doing is actually moving you forward.
- You’re stuck in the same routine with no growth: If you’ve been at the same job or in the same situation for years, with no room for growth or new challenges, it might be time to break free and explore something new.
Now, the benefits of a well-timed pivot are powerful.
You’ll feel energized, you’ll experience a new sense of purpose, and you’ll be excited to wake up and take action toward what truly matters to you.
And the best part? You’ll feel lighter. You’ll shed that mental and emotional weight that’s been holding you back.
So what’s the first step?
Start by noticing the things that drain you. It might not be obvious at first, but trust me—once you start reflecting on what’s not working, it’ll be easier to see where the shift needs to happen.
Then, take one small step toward change, whether that’s adjusting your mindset, having a tough conversation, or even exploring new opportunities.
The key is not to stay stuck “thinking” about it—start taking action.
This is the type of work we’re doing every day inside Clarity Lab. Taking meaningful action toward simplifying life, creating meaningful work, and finding the freedom to prioritize what matters most.
