A simple idea I can’t stop thinking about

Jun 08, 2025

Read time: 2.5 minutes

I’ve been thinking a lot about something lately—something simple, yet incredibly powerful.

Here’s the condensed version of what’s been running through my mind:

Wherever you place your attention, it grows. Your attention is the seed that always brings forth a harvest. Some of us have mastered failing because that’s where our attention is. What are you focusing on that is helping or hindering you from moving toward your goals?

Now, before you roll your eyes and think, “Yeah, I’ve heard that before,” let me share how this simple idea has been shifting everything for me (and might do the same for you).

For years, I was caught up in this cycle of multitasking—juggling tasks, managing to-do lists, constantly checking emails and social media, all while trying to keep up with a million things at once.

I told myself it was just part of the grind. You know, the hustle.

But here’s the truth: that constant fragmentation of my attention didn’t make me more productive. It left me feeling overwhelmed, scattered, and often stuck.

I couldn’t get ahead. I couldn’t make real progress on what mattered most. I was busy, yes—but busy with everything except what I really wanted to achieve.

Those feelings resurfaced recently.

I shared in my May Retro (in Clarity Lab) that I felt some insecurities at the end of last month. And while I know I’m human and feelings like these are natural, I also know how deep the rabbit hole goes if I allow it.

So I shook it off.

I changed the tone of my inner voice and refocused my attention.

And then, a simple idea hit me like a wave:

What you focus on is what grows.

It’s not groundbreaking, I know. But it shifted something inside me. It was a much-needed reminder.

So what does this mean for you?

It means that the thing you are paying the most attention to—whether it’s your goals, your relationships, or your work—is what will grow in your life.

If you’re constantly thinking about how overwhelmed you are, that feeling of overwhelm grows. If you’re always focusing on what’s not working, you’re reinforcing that struggle.

But the good news is: you get to choose where your attention goes.

Here’s how:

If you’ve been feeling stuck, like you’re not making the progress you want, ask yourself—where is your attention going?

Is it on the things that will get you closer to your goals? Or are you pouring energy into distractions, doubts, or low-priority tasks that leave you feeling drained at the end of the day?

Now I’m not saying it’s easy to shift your focus. Trust me, I know it’s easier said than done.

But once you start redirecting your attention to what truly matters, you’ll feel a sense of clarity you haven’t experienced in a while.

And I’m betting that if you make one small shift today—and then make it a daily practice—you’ll begin to see things grow in a way you’ve been hoping for.

Wherever you place your attention, it grows.

Sounds manageable, right?

Thanks for letting me share this with you today. I can’t wait to hear how focusing on what truly matters changes things for you.

P.S. I’d love to hear what your “small shift” is. What are you focusing on, and why? Send me an email and let me know.
